According to Boston.com, Fenway officials plan to construct a temporary 20 foot tall, 5-lane, 75 foot long Monster Sledding hill in center field starting at the base of the Green Monster and ending near the Red Sox bullpen. The hill will be open during all of the Frozen Fenway games, weather permitting, and will also be open for private parties and for VIP members.
The idea of a sledding hill at Fenway isn’t as crazy as it seems if you remember back to the early 1900’s when Duffy’s Cliff proudly stood in left field in front of the Green Monster. The hill ran from shallow left field to the base of the wall and maxed out at a height of about 10 feet. The hill was named after the Red Sox all-star left fielder at the time, Duffy Lewis, who mastered the ability of running uphill to catch hits heading towards the Green Monster.
No additional information is available on cost or hours of opertations during the upcoming games, but when we find out more information we will post it on our dedicated Frozen Fenway Event page.
