WWJD: Where Will Jimmy Drink?

Well thank goodness.  After Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and classes just starting back up on Monday on campus, finally… A day off!  Sit back and relax – you’ve earned it, after all.  Jimmy’s had his fill of social drinking over the holidays, and so now it’s time to get back to what he really likes: long weekend drinking!  Here are some options for your long weekend around Jimmy’s home state.

If you’re like Jimmy, you jump at the chance to load as many 30-packs as you can into the trunk and head northwest to Maine’s ski country on the long weekend.  Sugarloaf, Sunday River, Shawnee Peak, and Saddleback, just to name a few, are all reporting many trails open, with a little more snow on the way this weekend.  And, of course, if you don’t go up for the skiing, just join Jimmy in the lodge for a cold one!

If you’re of a certain age – and Jimmy’s been at this a while – you might remember local rock band, Billings Brew.  Well, Jimmy’s pretty excited that founder Mike Billings will be playing at 4 Points BBQ & Blues House, just down the road in Winterport, on Friday night.  4 Points is getting quite the rep for good music and great BBQ, so come join Jimmy for a nice rack.  Of ribs.

Jimmy has barely mastered Chutes & Ladders, but you might just see him kicking around the 6th Annual SnowCon Gaming Convention, which is happening all weekend, all around Orono/Old Town.  Starting at the Bear Brew on Friday with a kick-off party featuring the best of geeky 80s and 90s tunes, and culminating on Saturday and Sunday at the Black Bear Inn in Old Town, SnowCon might give Jimmy the chance to take a shot every time an Gnome defeats a fourth-level Dark Wizard.  Am I Right?  No, seriously: am I right?  I have no idea.

Of course, some of us like to stay in on a Saturday night, no?  It’s not Jimmy’s style, but if he were still nursing a mega-hangover by Saturday at 8PM, he’d definitely tune into the Screen Actors Guild Awards on TNT, to see if UMaine’s own Tim Simons takes home the…  Saggy? as a part of the nominated Best Ensemble Cast for HBO’s VEEP.  (Editorial: they absolutely should.)

And, of course, let’s not forget Sunday’s Patriots AFC Championship tilt against mortal enemy Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.  The weather in Denver is slated to be sunny and 60 – a little different than cloudy and 30s here in the Dirigo State.  Whatever the weather, though, you can usually find Jimmy rooting for the Pats at Pat’s (Pizza), and hoping Belichick, TB12, & Co. can upset the mighty Orange Crush once again.

On Monday, Jimmy will be doing some community service – and NOT because of that one time…  No, Jimmy will be taking the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday to do some volunteer work, so he can feel just slightly better about things during his next mega-hangover.
