On August 9, the University of Maine School of Performing Arts remembered Dr. Sandra Hardy, who retired in May and unexpectedly passed away in June. As part of its Summer Session series, Fill The Steins remembers Sandra.

On the heels of John Winkin’s passing, Fill The Steins continues our “Summer Session” with last year’s tribute to former men’s basketball coach Rudy Keeling.

While she is new to the position, Dr. Susan Hunter is anything but new to the UMaine System. Starting off as an assistant professor almost 30 years ago, she has worked in about every corner of the Orono campus on her way to the President’s House. In addition, she has spent the last year working as Vice Chancellor for the UMaine system making the transition into leading the state’s flagship university a bit easier. Fill The Steins is happy to sit down with Dr. Hunter and learn about her plans for leading the school, or favorite parts of working in Orono, and how she likes to fill her stein while not on the clock.

Fill The Steins’ “Summer Session” keeps on keepin’ on through the dog days of summer – here, we sit down with George Kinghorn, Director and Curator of the UMaine Museum of Art.

Perhaps it is the peeling maroon paint or the sun-bleached yellow letters on the exterior. Maybe it is the broken tile floors or the aisles that are barely wide enough for a single cart to pass. Sitting prominently on Park Street for decades it is the quintessential college grocery store also like it came from a deleted scene in Animal House. Yes, there is only one food market that has been servicing stein fillers for decades, the one and only Orono Thirftway.
