Throwback Thursday

With the Black Bears going into a massive weekend road trip to Gillette Stadium we thought it would be fitting to honor the football team with this week’s “Throwback Thursday”.

Here is a picture of the University of Maine squad from 1912 which represented the 20th season for the sport at the school. The Black Bears were one of just 76 programs in the country and they racked up some impressive wins against some famous and not so famous schools.

The highlights of the season included Maine crushing Fort McKinnley 38-0 on September 26th followed by a tough loss to Havard 7-0 on September 28th. That’s right kids, the football team used to play games when ever the two school could schedule a meeting, even if that was just two days after their last game. The Black Bears would go on to finish the season 7-1, with Havard going on to finish 9-0 and winning the National Championship.
